In this class, you’ll learn how to capture the figure in simple, accurate proportions—along with essential features like faces, hair, hands, shoes, and clothing. We’ll explore how to simplify real-life references and turn those dear photos tucked away in your phone’s cloud into warm, personal art pieces you’ll treasure forever.
Materials needed: A4 sketchbook, pencil 2B, eraser, waterproof fine liner pens, watercolour /
gauche (black, white, red, blue, yellow), brushes round.
Gesture sketches; exploring realistic, loose and expressive portrait styles.
Basic head and body proportions; foreshortening arms, legs and torsos.
Placing figures in scenes; using light direction and contrast to guide the eye.
Facial features (eyes, noses, mouths), hair, expressions.
Hands, feet, clothing folds, capturing movement.
A figure or portrait study with line and watercolour.
The courses include drawing, fine liner sketching, watercolour and mixed media.
You will need pencil, watercolour sketchpad with thick 300gsm paper, medium fine liner,
watercolours (recommend Windsor & Newton 12 colour pan), round brush no. 8.
